The Beatles gave me Mono! And I Like It!

Here's a bit of rare film of The Beatles from 1964 at The Paris Olympia.

While they were in Paris, they recorded Can't Buy Me Love and German versions of two of their songs including this one, Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand.

Later, the band concentrated on studio work. In fact 45 years ago yesterday, they performed their final concert of their final tour at Candlestick Park. After that they became a band focused on their studio work (they had already evolved light years ahead of Can't Buy Me Love on Revolver)
They not only spent more hours in the studio, but they began to sit in and provide input in to their mixing sessions. At the time, mono was the standard way folks listened to music and The Beatles concentrated their time on supervising mono mixes. The White Album was the first time the band started to take stereo seriously.

All the band's mono mixes are collected on The Beatles in Mono ($350). All the original mixes from Please Please Me to The White Album (The later albums were released in stereo only and are not represented here).
Also inlcuded are the original sixties stereo mixes of Rubber Soul and Help.

The collection also includes non album singles and EP tracks such as our German friend Komm Gib Mir...
The CDs are housed in miniature vinyl replica sleeves including inner sleeves and inserts.

Here's some more info on the mono box...

All good stuff!!

I Get All The News I Need from Simon and Garfunkel rather than Weather Report

Here's a track from Simon and Garfunkel: 20 Greatest Hits. ($10).
It's 'Hazy Shade Of Winter', later a hit for The Bangles.

While we're at it here's The Bangles' version.

OK. Back to bidness. We've got The Best Of Simple Minds. 32 tracks on 2CDs. ($10).
There was a time when these guys were stadium fillers, probably on the level of U2. They certainly knew how to craft an anthemic song. Here's one they didn't write though :) 'Don't You Forget About Me' which featured in The Breakfast Club. Molly Ringwald!!!

Sweet Child of Mine featured prob one of THE And when you play it - THE LOUDER THE PROUDER!!!
No surprises that it's on their Greatest Hits CD.14 tracks, Moderately Course Language and $10! Brilliant!

That's all for now...but as well as the titles mentioned above..

We are constantly receiving shipments of both CDs and DVDs; searching for the best deals on great titles. There's always something new to check out in the store.

Our range of music includes CDs and DVDs of everything from Lilly Allen to Leonard Cohen, Kylie to K.D Lang, and  Bon Jovi to Bocelli. We also have a great range of soundtracks, dance and pop compilations and nostalgia. Even kids stuff and 50s rock n roll.
When it comes to DVDs we have a wide selection of world movies, classic films and newer release movies. Plus classic blockbusters like Revenge Of The Nerds often for less than the price of a popcorn at the movies.

Another 1 or 2 from The Beatles

Here's a few more songs from  The Beatles' 1 compilation. They're all winners so it comes down to personal preference. I really like I Feel Fine. Above is a video of  the band eating fish and chips during the making of the I Feel Fine promotional clip.

Here's the film clip of All You Need Is Love. It was filmed in black and white, and a nice job was done colourising it for the Beatles Anthology.

Here's Yellow Submarine, another track that appears on 1. We've also got the DVD of The Yellow Submarine movie. A fantastic issue full of documentaries, special features, music only tracks and more.
And 5.1 sound! Check out It's All Too Much on your home theatre system. The DVD is $10.

Who are these Legends anyway?

There's a whole lot of legends in music. Sometimes an artist has created an amazing body of work and other times just merely hanging around long enough and being a survivor will earn you the tag.

Here's a couple I reckon have earned the tag legitimately.

We've got Bob Dylan's 2006 album Modern Times for $15. It's the special tour edition with a hardbound case and DVD. It features some really strong tracks including Nettie Moore and the driving blues track Someday Baby which was used in an iPod commercial a few years back.

We've got Bruce Springsteen's Greatest Hits for $10. As well as the oft-misunderstood and co-opted Born In The USA, he also had another good 'Born' song. No, Brooce's "Born" franchises doesn't feature Matt Damon, but it does include the momentous Born To Run. Here's Springsteen's version...

The Clash were a whole other thing to the attitude of The Sex Pistols. A kind of thoughtful response and evocation of that time in England. We have "The Story Of The Clash" Volume 1  ($10).
28 tracks over 2CDs including Train In Vain, Should I Stay Or Should I Go, and London Calling.
This Is A Video Of  This Is Radio Clash.

Cars!

Here's a track from the new album by The Cars, produced by Jacknife Lee.
The album is called Move Like This ($20), and this song is Blue Tip.

Well there was a Volkswagen Beetle and The Beatles played in Germany.  The jam packed Beatles "1" compilation features 27 number one singles including McCartney's Penny Lane ($10) Here's a bit from the (still unreleased) Beatles Cartoons featuring the track.

More Stuff!

Everybody likes stuff...whether you like to admit it or not. And there's a bit more stuff to talk about. We have a load of stuff ... The Divinyl's Greatest Hits. These guys knew how to craft a rock song, a pop song or just about anything..We've got Skyhooks living in the 70s with bonus b-side track...Led Zeppelin's still awesome first album. OK, they were allegedly a little light fingered on the fretboard, but it's what they've done with it! And if you';re playing a double knecked guitar you've got to save wear and tear on the old pointer sisters.

We've also got the Best Of Buddy Holly. So good that (if you believe one version of the story) Beatles named themselves in tribute to his Crickets. Regardless, he was a pioneer of the performer as songwriter and he had hits such as Peggy Sue, That'll Be The Day, and Words Of Love.

Here's a bit of the man himself on Ed Sullivan

Also got in Bon Jovi's Greatest Hits, The Ultimate Bee Gees, The (frankly awesome) Essential Bob Dylan (2CD) compilation, Neil Young;s Greatest Hits (based on original record sales, airplay and known download history). We also have The Essential Roy Orbison (2CD). Lost more to talk about.

Maybe Tomorrow,

Something a little newer...

We've got a range of newer titles in stock to keep it fresh for you.
Rhianna may not actually be the only girl in the world, but she knows how to belt out a pop tune.
Her album "Loud" includes Only Girl (In The World) and Eminem on guest vocals. Great at $10.

We've got Lady Gaga's Born This Way at $15. It's a 2 Disc edition with some bonus tracks too.
She's the full art package. Kind of like if Yoko Ono got together with Madonna and Tori Amos and devised a pop creation.

Here's a little Amy. A rare talent and soulful singer. She gave us the tools to cope with missing her. Bless her heart.
